Challenge

Climate Nexus is an international strategic communications group that works with nonprofit and media partners to drive global change in climate, energy, and water issues. Leading up to COP28 (the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference), Climate Nexus sought to connect with major media outlets to elevate the voices of their partners and increase global coverage of the intersections of health and climate, including amplifying the release of the 2023 report of the Lancet Countdown.

Climate Nexus asked KMSG to support with:

  • Conducting research and creating messaging resources covering the health impacts of climate change to share with reporters

  • Building media and press lists of prominent global health and climate change reporters and outlets

  • Connecting with prominent reporters and editors in the environment and health spaces to share the release of the 2023 Lancet Countdown report and health outcomes of COP28

  • Monitoring climate and health media coverage of COP28

KMSG accomplished the following:

  • Led media outreach for the release of the Lancet Countdown's annual report on the public health impacts of climate change, emailing over 250 reporters

  • Landed coverage of the Lancet Countdown report in leading global news outlets, including NPR, The New York Times, Reuters, the Associated Press, ABC News, NBC, Axios, and more.

  • Shared roundup messaging on COP28’s health outcomes with climate and health reporters and editors following COP28 and the first-ever COP Health Day
